Ronald McDonald Family Room
Our first project in Greece
When a child is diagnosed with a critical illness and hospitalized, a whole family is impacted, a household is plunged into painful change, and home life is disrupted.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room, at the Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital, will provide a comfortable space where families can rest and recharge, just minutes away from their child’s ward.
Located in a disused property within the hospital grounds and spread over 310 square meters, the Family Room will provide parents of young patients with a private place to have a meal or take a shower before returning to their child’s bedside, while remaining close to their children being treated in the wards.
Families will be welcomed to the Family Room with compassion and hospitality so that they can mentally recharge away from the clinical environment to stay strong for each other.
Hospital leaders around the world increasingly understand that accommodation and support for families contributes to high quality, family centered care.
The Family Room will feature a kitchen with snacks, private bathrooms, sleeping rooms, laundry facilities, internet access, a quiet room, and a seating area with a TV. The space will also include three family suites for overnight stays.
